ESTECH announces David K. Swanson, PhD, as Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Swanson will lead the company's focus on the minimally invasive surgical treatment of Atrial Fibrillation and other cardiac surgery technologies
Danville, CA, September 8, 2005- Endoscopic Technologies, Inc. (ESTECH), a medical device company focused on the development and sale of products for use in cardiovascular surgery procedures, announced that David K Swanson, PhD, has joined the organization as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Swanson, who is widely recognized as the inventor of RF ablation for the surgical treatment of Atrial Fibrillation (AF), will be a key factor in establishing ESTECH's leadership in supplying leading technology for this important application.

Dr. Swanson holds more than 220 US medical device patents including the earliest patents on the device-assisted surgical treatment of AF. Additionally, Dr. Swanson was identified by the San Jose Mercury News as one of the top 10 inventors in California.

Prior to Dr. Swanson joining ESTECH he was with Boston Scientific's electrophysiology division, where he was honored in each of the last five years as the inventor with the highest number of U.S. patents assigned to the company.

Arthur Bertolero President and CEO of ESTECH said "The addition of Dr. Swanson to our organization strengthens our position in developing new technologies and techniques for treatment of AF and other types of cardiovascular disease." He went on to say "Having Dr. Swanson join ESTECH will insure that ESTECH has the leading intellectual property position in surgical treatment of AF."

ESTECH recently released the COBRA® Adhere™ Catheter System, which is designed to deliver cooled RF energy through a multiple element catheter which allows the surgeon to adjust the lesion length by modifying the setting on the electronic control unit. The integral Adhere suction stabilizer provides an added element of safety by shielding and isolating all peripheral tissue. The suction stabilizer also allows the surgeon to apply the device on a beating heart ensuring good RF contact. The device uses advanced temperature monitoring to regulate energy delivery for more reliable performance than products from other companies such as AtriCure (ATRC) and Medtronic (MDT), which use impedance for an endpoint measurement."

About ESTECH
ESTECH headquartered in San Ramon, CA offers tools for least Invasive techniques and traditional approaches to the procedures that cardiac surgeons do every day - coronary artery bypass, valve surgery, atrial ablation and surgical treatment of congestive heart failure.
