ESTECH Issued Patent for Instrument That Enables Beating Heart Surgery and other Cardiac Surgical Procedures
Danville, CA, March 1, 2005- Endoscopic Technologies, Inc. (ESTECH), a
medical device company focused on the development and sale of products
for use in cardiovascular surgery procedures, was issued a patent
covering their Universal Stabilizer Arm (USA) Instrument. The instrument
is used to enable Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) procedures and
facilitate precise heart valve repair and replacement techniques.
ESTECH pioneered the field of Beating Heart Surgery in 1997 with the
concept of attaching a stabilizer arm to a sternal retractor; this
design was copied by other manufactures and has become the standard for
"Off Pump" Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB) procedures. The technique has
grown in popularity because it eliminates potential side effects caused
by arresting the patient's heart and using heart-lung bypass equipment.
Worldwide nearly 30% of all CABG procedures are done using OPCAB
techniques.
Ray Bertolero Vice President of ESTECH said "This patent covers design
advancements that offer surgeons superior performance from the ESTECH
USA product" he went on to say "the USA product enables a variety of
procedures and is widely recognized as the providing the best exposure
for heart valve surgery and the most stable platform for OPCAB."
ESTECH has an extensive portfolio of intellectual property relating to
methods and devices in the area of cardiac surgery. ESTECH expects
issuance of several more patents in the upcoming months and is applying
for new patents to cover ongoing development projects.
